VIDEO: School choice shift in St. Paul

January 24, 2011 By Tom Niemisto, Video Production Specialist

School choice in the St. Paul district is diverse. While there are pockets of excellence at neighborhood schools, charter schools, and magnet options, there is still a lot of room for improvement for every student to succeed. A new strategic plan put forward by the district will shift choice to six community areas within the city, dependent on the student's residence.

St. Paul Superintendent Valeria Silva hopes the new plan will help deal with the budget shortfall and raise achievement for every student in St. Paul.  School districts around the state are facing state aid cuts and are seeking new ways to serve families and raise achievement of every student.
