Jim Spensley, Hindsight Community Fellow

Jim Spensley

James R. (Jim) Spensley is a retired Systems Engineer, a veteran, and a long-time volunteer and community activist.

His engineering career in real-time computing systems included secure communications, interactive displays, industrial controls and robotics, models, and motion simulators.

Jim worked as Director of the Minnesota Occupational Information System under Governor Anderson and Governor Perpich.

He served as a Manager and President of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (10 years), and as an at-large Member of the Hennepin County Capital Budget Task Force (14 years). Jim has been active in active in State and local politics as a campaigner and party official since 1959. He was President of the University of Minnesota Student Body 1960-61, where his leadership in civil rights struggles led to politics and policy engagement for decades.
