VIDEO: Sensible Incentives

Minnesota is already a national leader in prioritizing renewable and sustainable energy policy. But progress is falling short in the rental-housing sector around the state. Property owners of rental units are responsible for buying and maintaining appliances, yet as they don't pay the utility bills and tend not to choose energy efficient units with Energy-StarTM ratings.

Minnesota 2020 Fellow Will Nissen is the author of a new report Sensible Incentives: Enabling Energy Efficiency in Rental Housing, which examines the split-incentives barrier and explores policy solutions to move Minnesota forward.
