Putting a price on liveability, and valuing the arts is part of the economic development future of Minnesota. That debate is ongoing in contract renegotiation talks with musicians in two of the state's, and indeed the country's, top classical music orchestras: the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and the Minnesota Orchestra.
Musicians stress the importance of competetive salaries to keep talent local in a time of growth, but management is pointing to diminished arts funding and contributions as a need to make tough cuts.
