About: CHEF LUCIA WATSON is the proprietor of Lucia's Restaurant, Wine Bar and Lucia’s To Go. One of the Twin Cities’ favorite neighborhood establishments, Lucia’s continuing popularity over the past two decades is a tribute to her sensibility in menu selection and her warm, congenial hospitality. A third generation Minnesotan, Lucia’s love for cooking began watching her grandmother Lulu, who used to pick blueberries and bake bread in a wood stove at the family’s cabin on the Canadian border. After earning a B.A. in French from the University of Minnesota, Lucia further pursued her cooking passion at the School for American Chefs with Madeline Kamman. She also studied to achieve her first level Master Sommelier certificate. Chef Watson is also co-author with Beth Dooley of Savoring the Seasons of the Northern Heartland, a “Christmas Pick” by the New York Times, this book embraces the traditional cooking of the diverse peoples of the Upper Midwest. Her second book, In-Fisherman Presents . . . Cooking Freshwater Fish celebrates catching and cooking fish for the table. The book is as beautiful as it is instructive, each recipe illustrated with elegant and stunning food photography. Lucia has been honored with many awards over the years and her recipes have been featured in a host of regional and national magazines. Three times in recent years she has been nominated for a James Beard Foundation Award—Best Chef in the Midwest. She is a former board member of The Chef's Collaborative and served a four-year term on the Organic Advisory Task Force to the Minnesota Dept. of Agriculture. Recently, the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy honored her with a Commitment to Community Award for her work with local farmers and youth. Lucia is currently the Board Chair for the Youth Farm Farmers Youth Project and lectures and teaches nationally and locally, often in support of sustainable food. Lucia lives in Minneapolis with her two dogs, and when she is not at Lucia's, she is in Brittany France, studying French food and eating oysters at her refurbished house Maison de Granit in the village of Trequier.
