Nicole Simms, Fellow
A Minnesota transplant, Nicole moved from Toronto to Minneapolis to pursue a doctorate in Geography at the University of Minnesota, where she also minored in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Since completing her degree in 2011, Nicole has taught courses in social demography, globalization, political ecology, urban geography, and consumption studies at the University of Minnesota and Macalester College; she also undertakes social science research as an independent consultant. Her research and teaching interests include alternative and counterfeit economies, consumption and identity, and the social, cultural, and political dimensions of economic globalization.
In addition to her Ph.D., Nicole also holds a B.A.(Hon.) in Geography & Political Science and an M.A. in Geography/Environmental Studies, both from the University of Toronto.
