Lucas Franco, Graduate Research Fellow

Lucas Franco

Lucas is a PhD student in political science at the University of Minnesota. He grew up on a small island north of Seattle, Lopez Island. He completed his B.A. in political science from Seattle University in 2008. He earned a M.A. in peace and conflict studies from the University of Oslo, Norway, in 2010. Before moving to Minneapolis, Lucas worked as a research analyst for Unite Here Local 8.

His research interests focus on the changing landscape of American employment relationships with a particular focus on the impact of independent contracting and subcontracting on the working conditions of low-wage workers. He also works on issues of identify formation and collective action within social movements in the United States and Scandinavia. When he isn't lost in his studies, he can be found exploring the Twin Cities on his bike.
